The reason I suggest that is after you're done scanning your slides you'll end up with a nice door stop with the 35mm only scanner. I bought one several years ago to scan 5000+ slides. It was sloooow but did a good job. Some flatbed scanners today can scan 4 slides at a time. And some, the Canon for one, will save each slide as a separate file. I would imagine that other scanner manufacturers would have software that would save the multiple slides as individual files. The current top Canon scanner is the 8800F. Bundled with it is Photoshop Elements. Just something to think about as well as dedicated slides scanners. The maximum dpi might not be the same as with a dedicated scanner however. You'd have to see what your requirements are and if it would meet them. You can get more information. You might look into a flat bed scanner that can handle slides. I've been looking for one, having been shooting 35mm and 120 film, black-and-white and color. I have film going back to the 1970s, so some kind of batch processing is a must. It looks like the Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner would do the job, I like its ability to scan sheets of film. However, I can't tell from the documentation if it would be compatible with my MAC OS 10.7.5 system or if a driver for it is available. Does anyone who has the V700 give some feedback on its use? All recommendations appreciated.
